WEST AFRICAN REGIONAL MENTOR-MENTEE PROGRAM
BREAKING NEWS: WASACWAR ADMITS 50 NEW MENTEES INTO ITS MENTOR-MENTEE PROGRAM
The World Aquaculture Society, African Chapter, West African Region (WASACWAR) recently opened applications for its mentorship program targeted at fisheries and aquaculture students in West African universities, as well as recent graduates. The application period ran from March 14 to April 14, 2025.
The Mentor-Mentee Program is a six-month cohort-based mentorship initiative designed to foster connectivity and inclusivity among students in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in West Africa. The program provides opportunities to learn from trailblazers (referred to as Mentors) in the aquaculture industry—individuals with at least a decade of experience navigating the opportunities and challenges of the sector.
Out of over 200 applicants, 50 students were selected from across the region. Nigeria had the highest number of applications, followed by Ghana, the Republic of Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.
A total of 22 students were selected from Nigeria, 10 from Ghana, 10 from the Republic of Benin, 4 from Mali, and 2 from Guinea.
According to the selection committee, the choice of candidates was not based on preference but on a quality assessment of all applicants across the region.
Congratulations to all selected applicants! We believe this opportunity will pave the way for excellence and innovative ventures that will transform the aquaculture sector as you embark on this journey.
